A BOOK REVIEW: PAM MUÑOZ RYAN’S ESPERANZA RISING
I had read about the life of the author and found that her grandmother is the Esperanza Ortega in the story and her grandfather is the character of Miguel.
Pam Muñoz Ryan tells the life of her grandmother and she is the inspiration of this book. Her grandma, Esperanza Ortega told her about her life in Mexico. She wrote down some of her grandmother’s recollection from her childhood.
She was born in a fairytale existence with wealth and grandeur which proceeded in the life inside a company farm camp where her grandma had lived and worked, together with her lifelong friends. Her grandma talked about those people and how they had helped her through desperate times which sometimes made her cry while recalling the memories.
Pam wished she had written down more before her grandma died because she could never stop wondering about her transition from Mexico to California and what it must have been like.
‘The rich person is richer when he becomes poor, than the poor person when he becomes rich.” It’s perfect quote because it describes the real meaning behind the story on how Esperanza’s hard work and suffering made her into a successful woman.
‘It is easier to close a river than to stop a gossip, “This quote is related to the part of the story when Marta saw Esperanza sweeping the floor, Esperanza doesn’t know how to sweep. She had seen Hortensia, their housemaid sweeps many times and tried to visualize her memory. So, she put both hands near the middle of the broomstick and moved it back and forth. It swung wildly. A group of women was laughing at her including Marta who pointed at her and yelled “CINDERELLA! Marta shared the news to the whole camp.
And I found that the word Esperanza means hope in Spanish. So, I think that’s the reason why it was very inspiring story.

PUPILS CARE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
Read their essay on what they have to say about the preservation of our nature:
AS A CHILD, HOW CAN I HELP IN PRESERVING THE ENVIRONMENT/ OUR NATURE?
As a child, I can help the preservation of nature by taking care of the environment and giving importance to them by planting trees and flowers, and watering them. I will follow the rules and regulations in dealing with the condition of our nature. I will do this by not stepping at the grasses, picking up the pieces of paper, throwing trashes at their proper garbage cans and recycling biodegradable things to newer ones.
As a student, I will separate or segregate biodegradable materials from non-biodegradable with their appropriate places. One of the benefits of recycling will be earning extra income for selling these things. I can also help the government in making and approving the laws in simple ways by taking good care of our nature. Then, someday our country will not just be an attractive country but a cleaner and greener country.

As a child, I can help the preservation of nature by planting trees and also recycling materials. Segregation is also necessary. It is a process of separating the biodegradable from the non- biodegradable materials.
The government and public officials are worrying about our environment because many people do not have discipline. Many people cut a tree, that’s why our environment is dirty and polluted. One of the policies that prevents the air pollution is Clean-Air Act, but many people do not follow the law.
I hope that all people in the world have discipline, so that the air that we will breathe is fresh and clean. Then, we will be healthy and strong. And also, the floods with be prevented.

As a child, I can help the preservation of nature by means of joining different organizations and launching different projects to help the environment. I can also contribute different skills, so that children younger than me can also help about taking care of the environment.
There are several reasons why I want to contribute my abilities to the environment: One, to make our surroundings clean and very peaceful; Two, to make the world greener. I will also plant trees, most especially in our country so it will turn into a more beautiful place absence of any pollution and unwanted chemicals which are bad for our bodies.
I want to tell everybody to preserve the world’s environment for everybody’s future. As they climb up to their future goals and ambitions, they will know how beautiful the world it is. So, let us start contributing what we know for the world’s better future.

As a child, I can help to preserve the environment by putting signs at the forests and jungles that says please do not cut trees, so the trees of the environment will be safe.
As a child, I can help to preserve the environment by putting small fences around some flowers in the city so people will not step on the flowers.
As a child, I can help to preserve the environment by building some small houses in our backyard so every animal that has a wound can go to the houses and I will help them cure their wounds and free them when they are already cured.
As a child, I can help preserve the environment by cleaning the outdoors so it will not be dirty and every living thing that lives outdoors will not get sick.
As a child, I can help to preserve the environment by helping the animals find and build their houses in safe places so that their family won’t get harmed.
As a child, I can help to preserve the environment by planting plants such as flowers, fruit trees, and many more so the environment will be complete,
